Mandatory as in you’re forced to take it once a month? I’d be happy with voluntary. My period skips a month so I wouldn’t want to be forced to take off during the months I don’t get one.
I am not rendered helpless or dysfunctional during a period. Some may be...but even then file for FMLA if what happens occurs often and is debilitating...not paid leave. This is a normal female function....men don't have anything equivalent to buy them time off. Plus some women are irregular...having abnormally long cycles or short. Who decides how long someone can be off for this?
So women will get paid to not have children monthly because every month you aren't pregnant, theoretically, you menstruate. Women also get paid when they have babies because maternity leave kicks in. This is just dumb imo. Idk how anyone can argue this will help productivity when women will be out of work but still eating a business's budget an average of 25% of the year.
Most and I’m kinda confident that like no woman gets paid maternity leave… at least not in the US where I live.
It would be nice for there to be paid maternity AND paternity leave other countries do this especially making sure dad gets to bond with baby but also gets to support the mom as she heals…

Whatever process is needed to support women in the workplace, priority 1 should be their right to privacy.
As a woman I disagree with this, most women function perfectly well during their period, so unless there is a documented or verifiable medical reason why they can't work, then reasonable accommodations would be understandable. India as a country has far more serious issues to deal with, like equal treatment of women but this is not one of the problem that should be a pressing issue.
I would say to take a sick day if your period is this bad. Plenty of females on my team have and told me but it’s their private information and choice to tell. I don’t need my colleagues knowing when I menstruate or how bad it is.
