For anyone who’s started at a company fully remote (Covid or otherwise)… when ramping into your new role, what did you do to feel more connected to your team/sales dept? I’m finding that I have questions that I don’t know how or whom to ask, I don’t know who anyone is and my manager can be MIA. This is my first fully remote role and it’s thrown me for a bit of a loop

Thanks. I’ve got a few things working. So should have something soon.

I started in a leadership role fully remote as well earlier this year so I completely know how you feel. My recommendation is to ask HR for org charts and try to foster a “company buddy” who has been there for at least year, that can help you navigate the organization. Be strategic and set up virtual zooms with the department heads so you can network, become educated on their org and if it makes sense who you should work with on their team. Moreover these meets and greets will help You w/ addressing your questions.

Also realize that most of the challenges you face aren't from being remote, it's from being new. Yes, it's a tad more challenging to build rapport over Teams, but having to hunt for resources when new to a company or organization/team is universal.

After a bit of a geography/region remapping, I was on a different team. I met them once at kick off and otherwise it’s been pandemic. We keep a group chat going on MS Teams and as silly as it is, you get to know people real well by the types of memes they share.

If you're given a general ledger statement, a bank statement, and a schedule of investments for a case study interview, what questions are you likely to be asked? Trying to exit into FAANG but know it may be a long shot involving a handful of rejections. Meanwhile got approached by a number of recruiters for a) smaller emerging startup <but need to shift geo>, and b) major banks for in-house strategy. I’ll proceed with interviews with a) since it will give me a flavour of tech recruiting, but should I even go through with interview process for b)? Thoughts? Fyi, have not interviewed in 4+ years!

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.

Normally pay my credit card off in full each month but find myself with a 10k balance (mix of medical, a/c repair, other unexpected events). I have 15k in savings, but I'm uncomfortable using most of it until closer to bonus time (wife stays home and I have 2 kids). Is this the right approach? Paying interest doesn't make sense either. Helpful advice only please

Currently in audit, looking to do tax returns for friends and family on the side to make a little extra money. Two questions: 1) would the firm have a problem with this if it doesn’t interfere with my work? I assume no since the firm probably isn’t interested in filing my brother’s return (he is a union electrician). 2) I have no experience in tax (I don’t even do my own return), so is there a good software to use for this or what is the best way to learn how to do tax returns?

Anyone here have any ideas on how to handle sexism on the bench? I’m at my wits end in a case where my opposing counsel (white male and also a total jerk) is buddy-buddy with our presiding judge (also white male). In every single hearing, opposing counsel interrupts me every time I address the court, and the judge not only allows it, he never allows me to get back to my point. He also likes to hold all of these hearings as off record status conferences. Any strategies to fight this?
