Anyone stuck in BOS Terminal 1?
Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months. It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup. In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. As I like the company so much. But considering my current knowledge,I am in the middle of the sea.I am afraid now that the new company's offer would be revoked due to this recession?Or can I take back my resignation in citi before the last working day.Is this wise decision?
Greetings from ATL

Not hating, some people know what they bring to the table. Like technical ppl hate consulting since they can use their skills properly, similarly non hard core programming people would like the pay bands from FAANG but know they can’t compete or have the same levels of technical expertise as their colleagues. Hence, can’t get a job there has different meaning for different people.
-> I suck and failed my interview so I’m salty
-> I know I will never pass their tech rounds and I’m upset but life goes on.
Oh and who wants to live in San Francisco?
Passed my interviews at AWS, would rather go in at a L5 maybe 6 after 5 years in consulting than out of undergrad at an L3 and take 8-10 years to make L5
Rejected 3 offers from Amazon and one from Apple to choose BCG. Have been financially more successful with equivalent hours (50ish week) and done much broader set of work here.
I get interview invites from different FAANGs each year. So no, I am with consulting because I like it more. If I have to go to FAANG I can go anytime.
McK2: I don’t think you should compare total comp post b-school; because the stocks don’t vest until end of 4 years. Compare the comp over multiple years.
Salesforce1: 10 years is a lot of experience. Assuming you have similar profile at BCG ; say 4 years pre MBA and 6 years post ; you would be looking around $450k
I hate San Francisco. Already worked for FAANG on East coast, SV, and in Europe for a several years before relo back home to the US for consulting.
I work at a FAANG company and live in SF (in the actual city). I personally don’t like SF at all, but do enjoy working at FAANG.
They hate us cause they ain’t us
Who the hell wants to live in San Francisco? I'd rather not live places where stepping on a syringe and getting HIV is a legit risk.
No. I recognize that the pay is great. But I want to work in a service-focused career and so I have started mine in government consulting. My exit will be into the public sector or another government consulting firm.
There are Bay Area tech companies outside of FAANG. They may even have better career propositions 😮
I had a job offer out of my MBA for a FAANG but turned it down because I didn’t want to raise my kids near the Bay Area, far from my East-Coast based family. A lot of people I know actually turned down FAANG offers for the same reason.
Congrats
By the way, I am a gay male. SF is supposed to the most LGBT friendly city but I still love the LGBT culture in New York better, in addition to all the other reasons people have already cited
I wouldn't particularly want to work for Big Tech.
I'm mostly in the product management space at this point in my career and honestly, if I were a PM at a Big Tech company, given the size of the companies and my level, I'd likely be working on either a random internal tool or working on a teeny tiny part of a consumer facing product. And if it's G, there's a significantly nonzero chance that whatever consumer facing product is be working on a tiny portion of would be kicked to the trash heap within a year or two.
Not just from the PM standpoint, Big Tech also has a pretty atrocious record on consumer privacy. Add in the political squabbles they tend to get in, as well as how the workforces and identities of the companies are pretty one-sidedly partisan, and they don't sound all that inclusive or desirable outside of the comp.
And on top of all that, I've twice spent a week in SF on vacation and have no desire to live there whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing it has going for it is its proximity to Sonoma. I'm completely disregarding all the other California-specific issues, too.
Hard pass on everything but the BT comp. I'd happily take that at pretty much any non-SV/non-CA firm.
I picked BCG over Facebook for a full time role once I graduate but hey if you think just everyone just can’t have FAANG and fits your narrative then go ahead!
The concentration of tech bros is a nope.
Hey PPMDs living in SF: is it better when you have a ton of money?
There is no amount of money you could pay me to live in the Bay Area.
Mmm... I rather own 3 homes where I live and have disposable income, work less..
SF is a nice city, but not worth the price. Silicon Valley is also a glorified suburb with little character.
I’d rather live in LA and work in a FAANG satellite office
Zero desire, turned down FAANG PM for current role at M 🤷♂️
Also from the Bay Area and like the East coast more
San Francisco is a shithole infested with homeless people, hookers, pimps, and drug dealers
I accepted AWS offer last Friday and picked Palo Alto location. Now, all these posts are making me nervous lol. Is bay area still going to suck if my TC is around $300k?
Yeah a lot of people are avoiding the valley because 300k/person or 600k/couple doesn’t get you near the quality of life it does in lower cost of living parts of the us.
I’m looking to leave consulting now and my partner and I agreed day 1 that SF/Bay area was off the table as we’d both have to prioritize pay in whatever jobs we looked at.
Moved to SF, hated it and moved back after a year.
SF as a city sucks, the best part of being there is nature around the Bay Area but other places have that too.
Most of my b-school friends in SF do not like the city, feel like they can’t save enough for a house and wish they could leave but are tied to their jobs.
Nope, I’m doing it
I visited SF a few years ago and wouldn't go back, let alone live there.
