That as a labor side management attorney, our work influences tens of thousands people for the better as we advise companies on implementing proper policies, complying with the law, and enacting new benefits in legal ways. Moreover, the people we defend are nearly always serial plaintiffs that aren’t doing their job well and who don’t get along with their colleagues, so by helping companies defend against these individuals (and their lawyers, who usually don’t care at all about their client), we are helping all the workers who are trying to be productive in a positive workplace.
In fact, our work is much more beneficial to society than all those transactional lawyers that just help rich companies buy other companies.
The majority of the cases we handle involve disgruntled and poorly performing employees who are looking to make a quick buck and refuse to accept any accountability for their own wrongdoing. I don’t feel bad at all.
I don’t, who cares lol. As long as the check clears every other Friday, I’m good.
I didn’t have any comebacks back in my employment days. They’re right and it didn’t bother me. I never drank the kool aid that what I was doing was good. Sometimes it was, when slimy plaintiffs lawyers were coming at us from mills or for no reasons. But a lot of the time if I was on defense and no counseling I was representing a big bad company. Just don’t let it get to you. I would just change the subject.
That in order for us to have laws that punish bad employers, there have to be lawyers to help weed out false accusations
If any of y’all’s clients are looking for a company to handle and provide all of their required workplace compliance & labor laws poster please feel free to DM me. Company is a pioneer of the industry which started more than 30 years ago.
I’m new to the management side of things, but really it comes down to just representing clients. We have employment laws for a reason, mainly to ensure that workplaces are safe places to be and people can work without fear of discrimination/retaliation/harassment. We advise clients to comply with the law and defend when claims are brought. Part of the job too is just figuring out exactly what happened as well. There are also tons of former employees who are jilted and want to make a quick buck. There are also people who legitimately face unlawful activity. At the end of the day, our job is to help the client comply with the law.
I say that if it’s a legitimate claim, then we settle those cases pretty quickly. But that there are also a lot of frivolous claims, so the company is entitled to good representation for those.
I don't tell them any of that or give an explanation. I just say, wow it sounds like you should call an attorney. 😄
