Great question, I’m on the 1099 side at RJ.
It’s the difference of ownership versus employee. Both channels get the same great support.
Employee is W-2 so less favorable tax treatment and lower payout. You can get health insurance through the company and they run the business side of taking care of monthly expense
Independant side will give you much better tax treatment, higher payout, more flexibility to choose your DBA, etc. You will need a good reserve to cover expenses in slower months and you will need to buy your own health insurance.
The bottom line is it depends on the size of your practice and you have to crunch the numbers on both sides taking into account healthcare costs. You also need to decide if business ownership is a fit for you. I love owning my own business but at times I humbly have to do things that others might not want to do (payroll, negotiate copier lease, set-up VOIP phones, manage staff, etc...) IMO, anyone over $600K GDC would benefit from the 1099 side.
Good question! I didn't know they offered both. Interested in hearing people's thoughts
I’m on the 1099 side, what is the W2 side payout like?
Thanks Pres 1. We are around that $600k AUM GDC and are finding that we are right on the border of either model paying similar. Good to hear the 1099 model gets same great support.
