Hey guys. I have an interview with EY Parthenon M&A Finance coming up. My recruiter said it will be an interview to assess my M&A/F&A Skills. Is that just a long winded way to say a case interview? Also does anyone have any tips on the interview process? Financial analyst here with experience in ERP implementation and working for the consulting line of business for my current company. Incredible country, amazing people and food. Work culture will shock you though if you are born and raised in US. I dont know how to describe it but a couple of characteristics that i observed: hierarchical, close knit work environment (people actually are friends with work friends, they share everything), people are more emotional, confrontational. I love India.
BA1-Give it a break. OP is not asking to be an expert in Indian culture. Appreciate the fact that s/he is looking to learn how to connect with folks better.
OP - Have fun. Go out and explore. Get invited to folks homes if you can and enjoy the delicious food and warm hospitality. Learn some local language phrases. 2 weeks is not enough to get a good feel of the country. Try to look beyond the population-chaos-traffic to get a peek of the wonderful world that India offers. Cheers.
BA1, you're a dick
@BA1 helpful gatekeeping 💁♂️
What’s the difference between smart and intelligent?
Follow direction of those in your team who have been there/ potentially worked with the client before. Hierarchies and titles matter there. Greet from most senior down, and use Mr/Mrs/Ms etc. unless allowed to go on a first name basis
Intelligence is the quality of a being to be well informed and be smart in all the activities. On the other hand, a smart person is one who is clever and quick in thought and action.
M1, have you been to India? Huge difference from the US when it comes to how women are treated
What part of India are you going to?
Don't travel by yourself if Female or have a female colleague there. They are very bad towards women so many warnings and a messed up people.
@OP Trivandrum is beautiful. It might be a little rainy. Lot of beautiful places to visit. Also it’s the state of Kerala which is called “God’s own country”. You may not find authentic South Indian Curry or Biryani but Kerala Fish curry and fry will be yummy.
Culturally: Hard working, late starters an don’t expect them to be at work before 9 AM.
When people try to hang out with you and nice with you don’t judge them as ass kissers, people treat you as their guest and showing their respect by hospitality.
Plan to stay in the boat house on a weekend if you are taking your SO with you.
India is amazing! The teams I have worked with there are incredibly smart, loyal and caring. They say yes to everything and will go out of their way to get things done. Sometimes with graduates or early career talent you do need to test if they understand the task and agree or are just saying yes!
On smart vs. Intelligent. Why do Indian girls say “ you look damn smart yaar” 🤔
@ D4, Indians often use the term “look smart” to mean you look fashionable or stylish.
@OP don’t drink the tap water, for the love of God.
Out of curiosity, where in India ?
M / F?
BCG India folks are very smart and intelligent. Have very high IQs. Don’t get intimidated.
OP - It depends on many factors. What part of the country are you going to be in?
Are you going alone or with a group of folks from here?
Are you male or female?
Intelligence is you guessing the correct path smartness is people who uses the information before other people realize and make most out of it
It’s a damn shame that you never were curious about this culture before you were thrust into it. Two weeks isn’t enough to learn everything you need to know.
