I need help managing a contract transition. I just started working as project manager owning a large system and help manage a team of developers contracted by a different company. Now their contract is ending and I’ve been asked to represent the gov’t as a contractor and make sure the transition goes well. I’ve never been in this position…usually I’m either transitioning in or out. The outgoing isn’t very organized with their knowledge transfer and documentation and want to help them but how?

I’ve been offered a position that I’m really excited about. Their initial offer was 10K more than the top of the salary range they gave me for the position when I asked during the interview process and at the top end of the salary requirements I set for myself. My partner thinks I should still negotiate for more even though I’m happy with the offer. Am I an idiot if I don’t negotiate in this case? Realistically, I don’t think I’d get much more than that, but should I negotiate out of principle?

What does professionalism mean to you?

My employer has told me what my year end bonus is going to be and that it’ll be paid out on 12/31 - I’ve accepted a position elsewhere, if I put in my notice now would they not pay me out the bonus I’ve rightfully worked for? I could not find any policies in our handbook about it

I’ve accepted a position with Deloitte and submitted my background check. I am not concerned about clearing the background check, but want to confirm that I have cleared the background check so I can give my two week notice. Deloitter’s - is there a way to check I’ve cleared? I know Deloitte let’s the employer knows 10 business days in advance, but for timing reasons I’d like to give my notice sooner.

Feel as if I’m constantly behind peers in terms of career progression (e.g. MBB/ FAANG) despite having a decent-ish background (tier 2 consulting and now at top tier finance company in strategy role). I find that the companies I’ve worked at have very set progression based on tenure, with no room for negotiation. I’m really ambitious/ hardworking and I am not sure where to go that would match my goals of career progression. Is it just MBB/ FAANG or is there anywhere else? Any ideas?

If 5 business days after the final round they say you will hear back next week for feedback, safe to assume it is bad news? My rationale is that feedback generally = reason why you did not qualify. Or in this market is it now used to keep things vague and elusive? At the end of the interview they said they would be in touch at the end of the week (within 5 biz days).

Any suggestions for books to help determine your next career move? Considering leaving consulting for other opportunities (biz ops, product management, non-profit, etc.), but unsure when the right time is and what to pursue next
