I wouldn’t promote someone who was getting bulldozed in meetings. Sounds like that was some clear feedback to address right there.
this. the further up you climb, the more you need to stand your ground because people will look to you for guidance/advice. if you can’t be trusted to hold court in a meeting, you’re not ready for that promotion - i would dig down and practice talking points before said meeting so you’re prepared when the AD comes for you
I’ve never promoted anyone after just 8 months...it’s bad for egos, can demotivate others, and sets unrealistic expectations.
Also, is it possible that while generally you’re performing above expectations, that an important requirement at the next level is to have a strong presence at client meetings?
Sounds like you’re doing great. IMO address the feedback and then ask for even more at your next review
I’m just telling you my opinion, mate. Not talking about specifically because I don’t know you..but yes egos need to kept in check when you’re running a department. Especially in agencies, where entitlement and delusion are rife

They probably can’t promote you 8 months into the job during Covid.

Gotcha.
I think you got the compliment sandwich.
Sometimes when you give people feedback, it’s tempting sandwich it in between vague compliments like “you’re performing above your role” but also need to stop getting bulldozed.
I think if you swiftly and visibly address that feedback then you can create the conversation around promotion in a more advantageous position.
I’m sorry, the excuses above for not promoting are exactly why we don’t get satisfaction in doing a great job. Keep going, you’re clearly doing well, none of your feedback is related to you - just others. Trust me there will always be excuses, I’m in the same boat. Hop around if you want to move up quickly, and stay put if you love your team/role/agency.
When was your last promotion?
You’ve been there 8 months...
No I’ve been at the agency for 3 years. I’ve been on this account for 8 months
