Has anybody transitioned from law to an operations role at a company? I’m a 10th year attorney with an interview for a legal operations manager role. Any thoughts on that path or transition in feneral

At my company we tend not to hire former attorneys for these roles anymore because in the past they overstepped into a counsel territory. We’ve also had people get frustrated with pay and title. Currently our legal operations person is an MBA they’ve lasted much longer then any of the former attorneys who held the role previously.

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I work with great people. Really can’t say anything bad about my firm in general either. But…I still dislike the entire premise of law firm life, the billable hour, etc.. I’ve been practicing in both big law (many yrs ago) and now in-house for over 10 years. Quite often I struggle because I don’t find work fulfilling. I’ve been in industries that allegedly have greater cause (healthcare) but was eventually disappointed by the corporate bureaucracy and went to a cutting-edge tech company for intellectual stimulation. Still I struggle. Should I try public interest? Not that I don’t need the money but it’s hard to work when I am so detached and find it meaningless
