So she raised request for name change 2 months ago and still it's processing. No issues at all with your Va benefits. The only thing to be aware of is there might be a 14-day waiting period to start std so they may ask you to take fmla (unpaid) leave in the meantime but if you have vacation/personal days saved up you can use those concurrently with fmla so you still get paid.
VA disability is separate
Good timing - I have a similar question for the group:
I am VA Disabled 100% P&T and have been having issues with my job and keeping up with Healthcare that I need to take time off for. My employer has a 3rd party benefits provider that allows paid short-term disability. This pay would be reduced by my VA disability pay, but that's fine it's still larger than I'd get if not working, and if I can get approved it keeps me from getting laid off while getting help.
My question is similar to OPs in has anyone navigated this? It'd be filing a claim with the 3rd party provider then they'd have to get documentation from the VA on my disability via release of information. My concern is I've worked with these issues (documented) at my employer for a few years, and all the questions they are asking are for when did this occur, etc... I feel like I'm going to go through all this effort, they will say it's not critical and we can make accommodations (which all failed in the past - i.e. telling me I can block off for appointments but calling me during those times or clients or partners making me work during that block due to deadlines... but I've beared it to try to not lose my job), and it will fail again then I'll get laid off for something unrelated. Any help / support / insight appreciated.
*Also, yes, I know I need a new job... this is a bandaid for now.
You’ll need FMLA leave to have protected leave and job protection. STD is only wage replacement.
If not eligible for FMLA or if you exhaust it, you can still requested a continuous leave of absence as an ADA accommodation.
