Has anyone gone to SHRM conferences? And is anyone headed to the one in New Orleans this June? What have your experiences been and is it worth the money? I’m considering it to expand beyond the talent acquisition realm and also to get back into some in-person networking but afraid it’ll be a waste of time and money.

I have been to 3 SHRM annual conferences. 2
In-person: 1 in New Orleans back in 2017 and the other in Las Vegas in 2019. I also attended last year’s, virtually. I have always enjoyed going to the conferences. SHRM spends a good chunk of change to make sure it’s a well produced event. Some of the material can be fluffy but I leave feeling re-energized and with a few key ideas to implement in my workplace. If you’ve never been, I recommend. I’m sitting this year’s conference out because I didn’t really enjoy NOLA. Also, SHRM tends to recycle some of their breakout speakers which I’m fortunate to see locally or virtually.

I am a first year and just started with the firm as an auditor. The more I go through busy season, the more I realize I don’t want to pursue audit. Can someone tell me how I can switch into advisory internally? or if I should just apply externally and leave? Also is it too soon to leave since I’m only a first year, or can I leave right after the busy season? Not sure what to do but don’t want to spend more time at a job I don’t love.

Looking to transition to a career in sales. Have been in Learning & Development for last 7 years. Eventually would love to blend the two but seems like the best way to do that would be getting more experience in sales. Does anyone have advice on where to look next? So far I’ve completed a sales training academy and over the summer got sales experience helping a coach scale their coaching program. Looking for full time opps with corporate company now.

I worked 2+ years in my previous role and have been in my current one for 7 months. Would it be considered “job hopping” if I start looking again? I’m the only income in my household and need to be making more $ to keep us afloat. Current company won’t raise my sal and after some research I’ve found I qualify for roles that pay at least $70k more than what I make now. Any advice?

So I’m probably thinking too much. But I’m looking to leave public accounting and have an opportunity with internal audit. I want to make sure where I go I have good opportunities to advance and if needed be marketable to other companies. Do you think internal audit makes you more or less marketable to other opportunities in the future?

Sharks and other fishes,
I need some career advice,
In my current company I think the development portion I've been given is kinda simple, I've asked my manager and seniors to level up my work and stuff, *which they did* but I kinda caught up.. now what should I do, should I ask them to level up again or look for better opportunities
Also, I had some Interest in CyberSecurity and I grinded it on my pre-final semester at Uni, should I try on that path as well or should I stick to development?

Interested in working in PE, but experiences align more with the Ops side (3 YOE in strategic value creation). Is there a significant difference in total comp potential between ops and investments roles? Not sure how to make a case to break into investments with minimal DD experience, so thinking about Ops recruitment (Associate). Would also be grateful to learn about potential strategies non-DD focused consultants have used to ultimately break into investment teams.
