I’m in my 4th year at a small plaintiffs’ firm. Past two years I’ve received meager raises (5k) and terrible bonuses (3k). My boss prides himself on allowing me to gain experience so I have more courtroom experience than most attorneys with twice the experience. I’ve gathered professional references from opposing attorneys and other attorneys we work with but still can’t land. Help

2nd year assoc. here. Finding myself spending 3-5 hours researching/analyzing issues that should only take 1-3 hours. I find myself questioning - for every assignment - is this the issue I was asked to look into? Did I read that case right? Does this analysis make sense? And I end up reading the same cases over and over. Does anyone have advice for being more confident/efficient on tasks, especially research?

I know there is a lot of politics at big four and have no interest staying in a senior manager role for 6-8 years and risk a chance of still not becoming partner. Should you discuss salary range with an internal company recruiter prior to setting up an interview? With external recruiters it’s pretty easy to talk about the expected range. I am trying to avoid wasting all of our time if i get to the last interview and they are expecting a salary that is too low for me.

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?
