Hello all, I’m kind of at a stand still in my life right now. I’m 24 yrs old, graduated with a degree in Animal Science 2 years ago and have been working minimum wage as a vet tech since. I have always wanted to go to vet school but would need to take ~6 more classes before I can apply. I already have $25k in student loans. I keep hearing “just apply u can get a better paying job because I have a degree” but no one will hire me. Maybe I’m applying to the wrong places?

I am relocating to Charlotte NC November 30th and on the career hunt . I have experience in HR, hospitality, social work, customer service, and education. I’ll graduate with my Master of Social Work in May 2023. I’ve been applying to a few things but no luck. I’m open to trying new career fields and to hybrid, on-site , or remote work. Hello everyone! So my dream job is to work at a veterinary office and I wasn’t able to go to college for it due to my financial issues and I still have that issue. I wanna get my foot in the door of any vet office I live in Maryland and I will start out as anything I just don’t know where to start. I have lots of experience with customer service and I love love love pets! I have Pets of my own and they are my world.

My area has a shortage of vet techs, yet all three clinics I’ve interviewed with are only offering minimum wage. I’d rather not commute to the next city if I don’t need to. Should I try to sell the ROI of hiring me at a liveable wage?

Confession: sometimes, when the owner leaves the exam room, I vent to the pet about how annoying their owner is.

Favorite part of being a vet?

I get that money is tight. But if you deny all diagnostic tests, please don’t get mad at me when we can’t figure out what’s wrong. Those tests are there for a reason.
