Hello everyone. I never thought about making a career out of hr but its definitely something that I want to do now. Eventually, my goal is to become an HRIS analyst. At ADP i worked as a technical support analyst and helped clients with anything from troubleshooting system issues to reporting to processing payroll and much more. I've applied to over 100 positions and havent even advanced to a single interview. It has been rejection after rejection. Any suggestions on which positions to focus on?

If you’ve truly struck out 100 times, there is likely an issue with your resume. Have someone take a look (either other HR friends, or reach out to your alma mater’s career center). With any substantial ADP experience, you should be qualified for a lot of coordinator/analyst roles.

like

Awesome. Guess i have been a bit shy to ask my network but you are absolutely right. I will get right on that. Thank you for the resume advice! Once again, I really appreciate the feedback!

As you’re looking at jobs, is there a particular system you want to work with, such as ADP? The company I work for recently hired a Recruiting Coordinator who had worked for our ATS vendor. I think that’s one of the reasons they stood out in the candidate pool.

like

I'm not limiting myself to only ADP and am very open to different hris systems. I was up and running with ADP having had no prior experience and I know I can do the same with another hris. I ended updating my resume and hopefully that will finally help me get some interviews.

I’m happy to take a look at your resume.

like

Thanks! This is the most relevant information on my resume regarding hr. The rest is more salesforce and sales support related. Would definitely appreciate any feedback.

If you’re open to moving to alaska I know a company that would hire you as an HRIS Analyst and pay very well

like

Thank you. I wish I was free to move but definitely open to remote.

If you really can’t find something I’d suggest trying a contract role, sometimes the agencies help you with interview prep and show you how to show your value bc they also gain something out of it

like

Yea I've been trying job agencies and looking for contract roles but have yet to find a match. Unfortunately the recruiters from the job agencies werent to keen on helping with interview or resume help. I'm still searching though for a good one.

Typically, HR Shared Services/Service Ceter roles are entry that can prepare you for an HR Analyst position. Best of luck!

like

That's a lot of rejections and it should at least be a wake-up call. Have your resume revamped so it highlights the similarities between your old jobs and being an HRIS analyst. I suggest focusing on relationship management and tech-savviness.

Would suggest either way isbfine. It's just that it might be easier to go for fresher hr assistant roles since there isn't much demand for hris analyst as it's so niche. I highly suggest going for hr assistant roles for now (if you really can't find an hris analyst role for you) and immediately relay to your manager you'd like to take care of more hris tasks. If they're good managers, they'll let you have your way. That's when you rack up on experience and achievements. Pick one particular hris you're interested in and learn the hell out of it.

I suggest looking online for any hris you're interested in and look at their customers so you can apply there. Workday and ZOHO seems to be the choice of the decade recently so there's that.

First time poster here!

My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.
