I followed a similar path while pursuing my finance degree obtained in 2021. My suggestion is to focus on roles in lending or treasury if you plan to remain in the finance sector. Also, work on obtaining your Series 7 and other series/licenses before graduation.
However, during my job search, most employers consider candidates with an accounting background or degree. They believe financial graduates lack accounting skills, which is incorrect. Try to gain an accounting background and SQL skills for positions such as credit analyst, financial analyst, underwriting, ABL Analyst, etc. Become an accounting intern to acquire professional skills in the industry. An accounting degree or background enables you to work in both the finance and accounting fields. These are pieces of advice I wish someone had shared with me.
I think taking some accounting courses would be enough instead of just changing his entire trajectory and get an accounting degree.
Finance degrees and econ degrees are fine especially in front office roles. Series 7 requires sponsorship. So get the SIE done and 63 since those don't require sponsors. I have all of those.
Go Corporate Banking sales at a national bank. Then you can pivot into other parts of finance, perhaps treasury or investment management.
