Hello! I work for a privately held company in corporate accounting. I’ve been in corporate accounting for the last 7 years and I’m tired of the monthly cycle. I want to pivot into a new field entirely but still want to be able to use the knowledge/experience I have accumulated over the last few years. Anyone know what I might be able to do or start working towards career-wise?

Public accounting

The only time I ever wanted to go into public accounting was when I was first starting out but it didn’t happen so I’m ok with not going into public accounting.

I was actually thinking about doing something in management maybe?

Left UK 5 years ago as Mgr because got fed up of low comp (and really, it’s the comp:houseprice ratio). Felt like unless you were in IB or Magic Circle law then getting on the property ladder was v difficult. But now wife wants to move back home - and trying to find the right moment when pay cut will be the smallest... Are there pathways to earn £180-200k as a Director at the Big4, or is Partner the only ticket to doing so?

If I’m making 65k in my first year of audit, should I jump ship now before I reach senior for a job as a “senior accountant” with 85-95k comp? Or should I wait until I reach senior associate and then jump to the same 90-100k range?

I applied at this company and last Friday they verified my references. And then 4 days later hiring manager sets up a phone conversation letting me know they still have other finalist they are interviewing and will let me know when t they make a decision. I really wanted this job and now idk if I’ll even get it. But my question, why would she verify my references and not offer me the job!is that normal ? This never happened to me before 😞

Has anyone made the leap from Corporate accounting/Financial reporting to something more niche like Revenue Reporting? I work in SEC reporting but want to work somewhere more diverse/fast paced/in the saas world and am considering a revenue reporting manager position at a tech company.

Pls help! I’m updating my resume with the hopes of leaving the firm in the spring. How do I go about including the industries that I’ve worked in and that I’ve been on IPOs? Currently a staff 2 (started in the summer of 2019) and I’ve been on a total of 4 busy seasons and then the 2 IPOs. I also have about 5 years of work experience (incl accounting) prior to joining EY, so not overly concerned about leaving before promo if the timing works out that way

I got an email on Friday at 1:30 asking for my availability this week for an interview and I responded back Saturday at 11:30 and sent the recruiter an email letting him know I responded and I was looking forward to the interview but I haven’t heard back. Have you ever given honest feedback to a company when leaving? For example the d&i initiatives leadership is taking has lead to joking about common racial stereotypes in office whenever an update is sent. I’m not used to those comments being said so freely for all to hear and fear they’d hire a minority (as part of those initiatives) in my place and subject them to that. I’m not sure what there is to gain but wanted to get other points of view.
