Love how they call people "entitled." It's so awful that people want access to the benefit outlined in their contract.
So EY told everyone there was a new policy that let then roll over more days? If they didn't want to set up an expectation, why change the policy?
lol differentiator on campus....
Eh I feel like students are naive about unlimited vacation. I definitely didn’t understand what it really was until I was in the workforce.
Lol a firm that had 37.2b in revenue wants to save 36m in separation payouts per year. I’d pay good money to hear how that conversation went down. Sure let’s piss off the entire work force to save literally less than .1% of revenue per year....
Well you are taking into account numbers for 2019. They estimated that they paid $36M in that year for separations. Such amount is overall very small. But 2019 was a regular business year. Things now are different. More and more people have been separated in 2020 because of Covid. This policy will be in place on 1/1/2021. Maybe it says even more than what it is written in the leaked email aka what if EY expectation is that market does not recover soon and they need to go through other rounds of "separations" from the firm in 2021... Which means the actual saving can be well above the $36M paid in 2019... Maybe 3-4 times more?!?!
They just dont want to pay the unused vacation when people leave 🤣
Bullseye
Apparently the E in EY stood for entitled and none of us knew.
Entitled & Young... kinda has a nice ring to it actually
Entitlement to what? What we earned? Geezus.
“Better aligns with culture of trust”
Say what??
They want us to blindly trust them, basically.
I pray the other firms don’t move to this, but knowing how things work it very well might. Having defined days makes it so much easier to take PTO.
Update: PwC came out saying they WILL NOT switch to unlimited PTO because it undermines the reason we have PTO. At least I’m safe at the moment.
Maybe on Jan 1 we should all test how unlimited this policy is at the same time
He means start jan 1 and keep vacation going as long as possible
As a GT employee who actually likes my unlimited vacation, seeing all these pitchforks come out is quite interesting. The scheming tone of that email is quite pathetic, but at the end of the day this is the kind of thinking that happens in boardrooms in every single corporation in America. You're funny if you think your preferences will ever be prioritized over the firm's mission to prosper. For me, I'm totally okay with the firm wanting to save money. I'm also okay with taking as many days off as I want. Who cares about pto accrual. It's a drop in the ocean compared to how much I earn in my career.
EY20 what is your rank at the firm? You seem to be very passionate about this topic at EY. If you are higher than senior, then I think you need to figure out what kind of person and leader you are.
“Removes sense of entitlement”
You worked till midnight for countless days and the firm wants to remove your perception of entitlement of accrued earnings in the form of time off? Seriously?
That is because the firm has a sense of entitlement to you working at nights and not letting you have work-life balance. And now they developed a sense of entitlement to take away from you your hard earn PTO. too. They just own you! Sense of entitlement from their part. Pure and simple.
Its not a secret, everyone knows non accrued vacation policies are a scam. So with that, push that envelope over the edge when you know you're leaving.
Everyday is a possible vacation day when you know you won't be there for the annual review.
You mean entitlement to my own compensation? What a slap in the face
Esp when we are no receiving bonuses or raises
“Positions EY as a ‘first mover’ among Big 4” translates to people will leave EY before any other Big 4. Move right on over to another Big 4 or industry.
Thats how they positioned tech MBA in recruiting as a selling point.
People literally eat sleep and breath for the firm for months of busy season and the firm basically just let us know we are pieces of sht. Thanks EY
Talk about a slap in the face of employees. “Some of the points may not be shared w/our ppl” practically calling EY ppl entitled is just lololol
Chief
Did people really not realize this? Anyone out there thought unlimited PTO was a great idea made solely for your comfort?
Seriously, it's all about wiping the liability off the books, and decreasing the payout expense.
“Position EY as the First mover in the big four”😂😂😂. Ok EY you winner now! We bow to you
Watch this change happen though.
Now I know where not to go if jump ship. Sorry for your loss bro. KPMG is always hiring 😉

WOW, well done EY
