For government, work on your resume and study the federal resume guidelines.

Look at recent grad positions, for vets the definition is 6 years instead of 2 years post graduation.

Make sure that you’re you have insurance outside of your military coverage before you get out the earlier the better. Do you have a job on the outside, it sounds like you do. Make sure you’re aware of the coverages that you’ll need for medical insurance, etc, absolutely use your education benefits.

Highlight your transferable skills on your resumé, and for federal applications, definitely use a federal resume. I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. I am also looking to relocate to a different state. How do I go about properly marketing myself to companies that might not take my relocation and minimal experience seriously?

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?

To all the post-9/11 veterans, it’s a somber day that unites us all in the reason we fought. It’s easy to forget - especially with the younger generation having 9/11 be a history lesson rather than something they lived through. The waters became muddy with two wars and politicians, but you all stepped up and did your duty. Thank you all for your service, it’s an honor whether we crossed paths or not.
