The London market is deep in decline. Salary’s are less than half of what you will earn in the US. And the cost of living is worse than NY. Creative standards are infinitely higher and competition for jobs much more intense. I have worked in both markets. The creative culture is completely different. But good luck, you’ll be a better creative as a result.
Yep CD1 is correct. Thought about moving there for a job years ago but the pay is almost half of what it is in the states. Same with Australia.
I suspect you’ll also need highly awarded work to even be considered - preferably D&AD.
i have the exact same story.
Yes salaries are about half.
Yes rents are comparable to NYC.
No cost of living is not more. Grocery shop is about £30. My phone is £20. Clothes are 20% cheaper. Eating out is 20% cheaper. Transit is 80% cheaper since TFL goes everywhere so no need to Uber.
Tech is about the same. A $1500 Macbook will cost £1500. It’s bafflingly stupid but, it’s how it works.
The politics are less Nazis vs Snowflakes. (It has its own troubles but it’s not nearly as likely to start World War 3, and our leader isn’t a global humlilation.)
Travel is 90% cheaper. You can take a weekend hop to Tenerife for £60.
The food is FAR better, and the best food in the world is a £50 Easyjet away at any time.
Getting a job will be difficult. London is the creative capital of the world and the standards are sky-high. You being from outside the UK will be a huge hurdle. Welcome to life as an immigrant; I walked away from the job search experience with a MUUUUUCCCCCHHHH better understanding of what newcomers and POC deal with 100% of the time. It’s enlightening.
In the end, it’s better. It’s more fun. It’s more challenging. It’s more rewarding. I’m happier.
Hope this helps.
