Hi everyone. Currently working in business development - trying to break into the Solutions Engineer world. Mid 30’s, I enjoy the customer facing piece, solving problems, and the tech side.

Any recs on certs or entry level roles?

Nothing currently open at my company and we did not have a great year last year so I am trying to find the exit.

Depends on industry. I’m an SE in fintech so the main requirements we look for is anything coding related. No you don’t code code all day but knowing fundamentals is important. I have friends who are SEs in cloud and they require a lot more certs. Again it’ll really depend on industry. Another buddy of mine is an SE but in shipping/hardware and they require those SEs be technical in scripting so python etc…

All SEs tho the hardest part for us is usually obtaining the sales knowledge and sales persona. If you got that already you’re already 50% of the battle

Thank you, that’s very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

It may be worth reading through The Challenger Sale, Demo2Win, etc.

HR is scheduling the interviews without checking time with me. One interview was scheduled and then it was rescheduled to a different time at last minute. I can see short term changes but the way Amex has been aggressively marketing Platinum card, we just will have overcrowding of primary card holders 🤷🏻‍♂️

What's next, everyone has to spend min. 50k a year to get Centurion lounge access or pay per visit.

Recruiter for big tech company reached out on LinkedIn about a role. I asked about ballpark compensation numbers and they said they’re only comfortable sharing on a live call. Replied that I often receive LinkedIn offers for roles of paycuts around 30-50% so I want to make sure we’re in the same rough range. Recruiter again said she would only share via live call. Is this a red flag?

I feel like I was straight up lied to during the interview process. “lots of opportunities to hit quota”. I’m sitting here with only one demo two months after joining the company. it looks like our team has only two people doing demos, and demos are only happening once every two weeks. At this rate, I don’t think I’ll be even close to hitting OTE. Are there any other companies hiring right now? I’ll have a discussion about my concerns with my manager soon, but there’s too many red flags here.
