Anyone done expat in Johannesburg? Pros/cons?
Americans have no clue about coffee. No f clue.
Strategy& fish - i’m currently recruiting for org strategy. Ive talked to associates (in the healthcare practice) and theyve mentioned that it doesnt matter whether youre in corp strategy, org strategy, etc and that you’re pretty much pooled by industry when it comes to staffing.
Can someone confirm this? Also, what do you expect the restructuring to look like?
Slalom Consulting this might be a total long shot, but I recently finished the interview process with slalom and they gave me a *verbal* contingent offer for an incoming contract. However, I just found out I might have to relocate to Boston soon. I would love to stick with slalom as the goal company, but wondering if I could talk to the recruiter about transferring my application to the Boston office? Any advice? TY!

I know some ex-D and ex-ACN folks who work at Slalom, and the consensus feedback was that Slalom is more akin to staff aug roles. It has a heavy Accenture culture, which personally is not my cup of tea. All work is local, and each local office has its own culture (some good and some not so good). The offerings also vary by office/region.
I know folks at a handful of offices (Boston, a few Midwest locations, and one of the bay area offices). The folks at Boston and Bay area have not done any staff aug work, though the Midwest locations have all done it.
I was in the offer stage for a position at the local office before it was put on ice due to Rona. The position I was being recruited for is legit tech strategy work, but the same office does also do staff aug work.
My understanding is that the type of work can really vary from one office to the next.
Wow I am astounded at the Slalom hate from people who really have no clue what we do at all. I personally am on a strategy project that Slalom won over McKinsey. Work completely varies, exactly as it did for me when I was at Accenture previously. Slalom culture is incredible compared with Accenture (never worked at Deloitte, but the people who come from Deloitte have cultural PTSD when they join). True family environment where you are much more than a number. Every market has its own flavor, so you can have the opportunity to be a big fish in a small pond and move up quickly (if that’s your thing). We’ve grown by over 50% every single year and are unseating some really big names at similar rates, so if we’re the “B squad,” the A squad must not be trying.
Finally, our CEO conducted an all hands last week to declare that we will have no layoffs during this downturn
OP, feel free to DM. I’d say the same for most slalom folks. We love to talk about the Highs and lows.
Steer clear of Slalom. If you want real consulting, you should look at BCG or McKinsey.
Lmao this might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard on this bowl @s3. I'm dead
It’s a great stepping stone, but doesn’t sound like you need one. STAY PUT! Or go to industry. But do not go to Slalom.
proud to work here.
Any other feedback?
Usually gets the crumb in sales (that piece of work that other vendors don't want to do) and yes accenture b players and usually staff aug
I have worked at sapient myself and I can say that u guys have no delivery ethics and no work quality. So , please you have no right to make a comment like that
Wow Slalom hiring during these times.
Was the recruiter an internal Slalom recruiter or an agency that claims to be sourcing for Slalom? If internal then I would say 100% legit. If an agency, I would say that even in the best of times they are shady, these days they may be just collecting resumes to "spray and pray". You NEVER want your resume to come from a shady recruiter, it may kill all future chances for you.
Got a note from a recruiter today too...
Does Slalolm even have a good reputation, isn't it a boutique firm?
SA1 I’d argue you need to chill on slalom. The recruiter isn’t on this thread.
OP are u in cloud?
Then what skill sets
I did not like my interview at Slalom, could be just that one office in the south. I was approached by Slalom for the interview. The hiring director could not tell me any clear feedback after the interview, but the internal recruiter invited me to talk with her after a brief discussion with the hiring director post interview. She accidentally revealed that i was qualified and had a lot of experience and asked me about my salary requirements. I was honest and talk about what my current rate was at that time. She seemed shock. Afer a week, the recruiter told me they were not moving forward with me because I did not have experience working at one of the big consulting firm. Soon after that, I was approached by Accenture and I had three rounds of interviews and got in smoothly. The process took longer than expected at Accenture but they ended up offering me more than I expected.
Sounds about right. They don’t like to pay market value. Traditionally, they’ve used the ‘no unwanted travel’ pickup line to justifying low offers. But I wonder what they’ll be able to use now.
