I tend to overwork myself and it’s really taking a toll on my mental well-being. I want to learn a lot and prove myself to my superiors so that they recognize me/see value. Now my work has a sense of dread to it. I watched my parents be workaholics growing up, so it’s all I know. I’m also goal-oriented and driven, so achieving a lot scratches that itch for me. But, it’s making me want to quit cause I’m burned out and depressed….im not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be helpful.

A lot of research on this.
Physiologically, there’s really no BODY COMPOSITION or FAT LOSS benefit to cardio. This comes from decreasing calories
IE.. If you eat 3000 calories to maintain, it doesn’t make MUCH of a statistical difference if you eat 2500 or eat 3000 and burn 500 extra from cardio to lose fat.
In addition, your body adapts to cardio FAST. So the 300 calories you burn week 1 can be more like 220 by week 3, it just gets less effective.

Obviously it’s not quick like that. It does depend on the individual, some have less adaptive metabolisms and don’t even need to change calories/macros on a diet and others need changes every few weeks because progress stalls.
Cardio is beneficial from a health standpoint, to improve work capacity and potentially speed up fat loss. But it is by no means necessary to lose fat.
Most of my athletes who want to lose fat, their cardio is getting 10k steps per day, as they don’t have a lot of time and I’d rather have them prioritize weights.

Also a coach.
Jeff Nippard, YouTube, recently did an analysis of published studies for cardio. One of his notes is that calories burned from cardio actually translates to less weight loss than you would mathematically think. https://youtu.be/crPb62o-z_E
But basically, weight loss is just calories in vs calories out, it’s definitely more diet based then training based. Cardio is just a health tool.
Not only that, but muscles are kind of like passive income. They boost calories or even while you’re at rest because the calorie cost of muscle is expensive

I recently read an article that your body adapts to exercise by using less calories while at rest so you may end up burning the same amount of calories 🤯
Based on that cardio would make the most sense because you’re building muscle that burns more calories while at rest.
However, I do cardio for the heart/lung benefits.

Should read weight training makes the most sense
