How do you even exit into a financial analyst or FP&A role when so many of them require financial modelling experience? I work in PA with small businesses so no financial modelling experience at all

I learned it on my own via YouTube, LinkedIn learning, etc. Made it a huge point that I understood both the accounting (B4/CPA) and the finance (modeling, understanding business drivers, business partnering) to be a good fit.

It is definitely much easier to make the swtich at the associate or senior associate level. At manager it may be more worth it to take an accounting manager job and transfer internally to their finance group. One of our Finance VPs went from financial reporting to FP&A at the manager level.

Also, a lot of FP&A roles are just fancier accounting roles with some forecasting sprinkled in. You could always jump to one of those first, then pivot from there into "sexier" FP&A roles that eliminate the accounting duties entirely and focus on forecasting + strategic projects (this is where I am now). Maybe even go a step further and go to a strategic finance or corp dev role that is purely M&A/strategy focused (less concerned about month to month forecast variances).

I’ve worked in sales for 12 years (8 years retail sales and management, 4 years inside tech sales and management). I’m feeling the burn and looking for something else in the tech field. I’m making $140k. I have a college degree but no marketing, engineering, or product experience. What other departments/jobs could I jump to and still keep close to my OTE? I’m pretty good at Salesforce and have thought about a SFDC admin type role, but that’s all I’ve thought of so far.

Looking for input on changing positions from a Buyer to an International Logistics Coordinator. I have international freight experience and have a potential opportunity. Financially, the move makes a lot of sense. Would this be good for career trajectory? For context, I have been a buyer for several years and this is my first 'real' job, so pretty early in my career.

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

What’s going on FB friends,

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?
