Include a set of editing rounds in the package. Example :
With X projet, 5 edits are included, anything more is charged XX$ per edit
Watch your client suddenly get less picky.
@AS Every tweak after the final review constitutes an edit. I allow 10 minor edits and then we charge
Couple things that have worked for me:
- Flagging to client before we brief studio that the creative is now locked and confirming that all required approvers have seen it
- If it’s a client I know well, I specifically ask if they’re happy with things they typically get hung up on
- Sharing studio files in only one size per version for sign off before rolling out all sizes
Of course, clients are clients and stuff still happens, but if I’ve done all the above in writing and they still have late hitting feedback, then I let them know that we’re happy to accommodate the request provided they have more money and time to invest in the updates.
Typically, that does the trick and they let it go… but if they don’t then there’s probably a justifiable business reason for the change and as good agency partners, I feel like it’s our job to adapt in those scenarios. (& it’s the client’s job to compensate the agency for such accommodations)
Document. Require “written” approvals. Remind them they are eating their budget alive. Then, charge them for any OT associated with their disrespect for their brand, their budget and their agency.
I once had a client who would want to change storyboards on set…on set! After network approval, after legal approval…. He thought he was the director. My agency producer coached me. He’s the client. He can do whatever he wants. Ask him how much money he has in the budget for that revision. And remind him it requires shutting the shoot down because it then needs to go through the network again. Case closed. He left the studio to shop around NY.
Lol! The ending I didn’t see coming
