How does one go about changing career paths. I have been a mainframe professional doing production support for more than 12yrs now, and i am starting to feel redundant. I have been working in the current company since 2015, and i don’t have the same drive that i had when i joined. And i feel mostly under valued and under appreciated more now. I have been trying to get into project management by doing PMP or CSM but i am not sure if i would need a lot of experience, i have exposure.

One advice I got early in my career was that software engineers tie ourselves to the language. For e.g we are COBOL developers instead of thinking we are software engineers and COBOL is one tool, there are other tools like Java, .net which you can learn. Your core expertise is software engineering. With this mindset pick a language that is in demand, get certified, start doing side projects and at some point you can transition

Additional Posts in Career Pivot

Hi there! I currently work as a strategy consultant (2 years post-BA) and am trying to pivot into a pure data scientist role. I studied statistics in undergrad but don’t have industry experience on my resume. Anybody else go down a similar path? If so, I’d love to hear about your experiences. Thanks so much!

Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. Hello people, how common is a Amazon to PWC move ?

TC $135k Base PWC -$81$ + Bonuses ( 50k$)

Looking for managerial skills which the PWC role avails, and L6 promo doesn’t seem to be happening soon in current role. I’m also mentally stretched. I hear WLB in PWC is just as busy but can anyone confirm if this move makes any sense. Google Amazon
