I will seek to retire (or partially retire) based on net worth goals
Pro
Life has a way of changing any set plans. However, I think I’ll be able to retire by 60 with a goal of retiring by 55. I’m only 39 so we’ll see how well my prediction/goal is.
I remember thinking I’ll never be able to retire when I first started working but I got raises faster than I expected. I thought I would be making under $100k for a long time. I still don’t plan to retire until about 67 and even then take on extra work to keep me engaged mentally. So many people seem to go downhill after retirement it seems.
That’s true, as long as you’re being mentally engaged in something and productive then I think you’re in good shape. What do you want to transition to? I’m curious.
Two years. Debts will be 100% paid off and I'll be free to do whatever I please. I won't be old enough for traditional retirement but retiring to a low stress job sounds like retirement to me.
Yea same this is honestly the retirement I want where I can move into a job I care about and am not concerned about the money aspect of it. Taking this time to figure out what my aspirational second act job will be when the time comes.
53 now, I'd like to retire at 62. I hope that in the USA that we'll have something like single payer Healthcare so I don't have to wait until 65. I've already saved beyond what I need to for my age (10x salary, 15x salary net worth), No debts other than the mortgage which will be paid off in 6 years.
Hopefully something happens in the future so you can get to where you want to be sooner but it’s good that you have achieved monetarily what you set out to achieve.
