How hard is it to go in-house once you're a partner? I'm up for evaluation this winter at a smaller BigLaw firm, but I'm questioning whether that's the route I want to go long term. There are plenty of remote jobs in my practice area (patents/IP, computer science focus). Making matters more difficult is that my wife and I will be starting IVF in Jan., and I know parental leave/benefits don't kick in for a bit. If I go through the shareholder process, will it be hard to go in-house?

Everyone will have a different opinion on this. But most corporate law departments are filled with attorneys who either didn’t want to make partner or who didn’t get elected to partnership. So it shouldn’t hinder your efforts because most law departments know there is an up and out method in law firms.

Most of the higher ups in house counsel I work with at my clients used to be law firm partners.

Pay for LinkedIn premium for a month and look at the background of GCs and AGCs or other in-house attorneys at the companies that interest you the most and you can get a very good sense of their backgrounds and paths to their current position.

Depending on shareholder compensation at your firm the bump down to in-house comp could be extremely jarring. Just something else to keep in mind.

Any motorsports photographers out there?

I would love some advice to get a little more serious with this hobby of mine. I have gone to a handful of events, both local tracks and professional circuits as a spectator, but wish to know what the best approach is to gain media credentials to take this passion of mine to the next next step.

Any advice is welcome, I would very much love to fuel this passion of mine with the hopes of eventually making motorsports photography a career path.

Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

Should I apply for roles outside the company?

Moving on from Hotels (Hospitality)?

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now, but it is very to commit to actually accept a new job offer since I really do love my job. My only complaint is, the pay vs workload is very small. I’m a manager now and my property offered me a director position… but the salary is still low! To make six figures, it’ll take another 5-6 years to grind it out.

Should I move on and go to a different industry? Opinions are welcome! Thanks in advance.
