Today: 305k to go on my mortgage... that's it.
Five years ago I was over 150k in vehicle and credit card debt. The COVID lockdown made me realize the disgusting amount of money I was wasting to maintain a lifestyle I didn't need. Dave Ramsay was a huge help for me to adopt the mindset shift and discipline I needed to get out of debt.
Get a consolidation loan at 14-15 percent and pay off quickly.
Mortgage - $821k
Home equity for Reno - $100k
Consumer/car - $95k
Waiting for bonus but should make a big dent in the $95k. Using debt snowball.
Goal is to pay that off and open up $2k in cash flow which will be used towards the equity loan.
$4k left on a car loan from last year. Should be paid off in 4-5 months. I despise having loans, so I usually don’t mess around with them.
I have $500 in debt only. No student debt bc I studied abroad. Car is paid. No mortgage I live rented. Praise the Lord 🙏
$20K due to the bar exam and wedding expenses that creeped up on me. I just got a personal loan with a 12% interest rate from upstart.
Does that mean your NW is negative? I haven't had a negative NW in the last 10 years
Rising Star
I did 5 years ago.
I sold the condo I owned, paid off my debts, rented for a year and a half, scrimped and saved, then bought again in February 2021.
My net worth, including my new home and mortgage is about $350k these days.
Rising Star
I just have my mortgage ($156k) and about $9k on a credit line from my contractor that I got at 0% interest for 4.75 more years (had to replace my furnace and hot water heater in February).
Everything else I paid off when I sold my previous condo 5 years ago.
If your credit score is good, could consider getting a new credit card with 0% apr for 15 months and do a balance transfer. But you really gotta have self control not to overspend
By 2021 I paid off $270k in debt which was basically all student loans. It took 2 yrs to pay it off. I was extremely aggressive with that. Now I just have a $1.1mil mortgage. Plan is to pay that off in less than 20 years.
As a weird of encouragement...
Apart from my mortgage, I've been debt free for over 5 years now. It took several years due to low income and poor car buying decisions that snowballed. After all the hard work, it was SO WORTH the hard work to get here. Be diligent and check Dave Ramsey for debt advice.
I have $300k left on my mortgage which will be paid off in 5 years.
