It used to be under 24 hours in 2021/2022. Right now, firms are being cautious and taking more time. I’d say one week is normal. Two weeks isn’t outside the realm of possibility but obviously, the longer a firm waits, the less likely it is to lead to an offer.
It’s not as good as 2021/2022…
I just got an offer after 4 weeks
Congrats!

From my experience, its been 24-48 hours.

Ditto. Offer by phone call with offer letter following. Letter may take longer.
My last lateral took more than 2 weeks to get back to me.
My lateral offer took about 10 days but it was around Christmas
It used to be that a week was very normal. But from what I’ve been told from our recruiting, for strong candidates we actually need to be prepared to make an offer before they leave the building.
So yeah, a week is a bad sign.
Caveat that timeline is for summer associates. Lateral hires take longer, and one week or more is definitely still normal there.
Why the difference for laterals? This is for a lateral process, not feeling hopeful at this point

Almost every offer I’ve ever gotten was within 24 hours. If it was a morning interview, I typically found out by the end of the day.

Yes. If longer than a week you’re likely rejected.
