How long is a piece of string? I've seen things turned around in a fortnight and I've seen people dragged along for a couple of months.
For a targetted opening, initial contact to offer shouldn't take longer than four weeks.
There is no set time. Even wishing one company one position may vary from another. Talk to your recruiter about timing, that’s the only and best information you’re going to be able to get.
I just made the move last year and took about 5 months from the initial chat
Would start having the chats now but they’ll move as fast/slow as they need to based on their pipeline.
As long as you don’t need sponsorship you could also set your sights on MBB or T2 for a significant pay bump. You can search the AFR for rates at M and SM and unfortunately still lower than their peer roles in asx50
For my most recent role (SM in industry), it was about a month-long interview process (external recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn). I didn’t start for 3 months due to my notice period and some personal time off. I was already in Australia and did not need sponsorship though.
Note: School holidays — Christmas & Easter in particular — slow down the process since everyone goes on holiday. Also, job advertisements and recruiting activity for industry peaks around October since the Aussie fiscal year ends in June and people give notice after their bonus hits in September. It’s vigorous activity until December when it all stops due to Christmas, and it doesn’t really start again until February.
I think mine was a couple months
