Will you have one year of service before the baby is born? If so, 16 paid weeks. If not, 0 paid weeks

like

And doesn't really matter if they get annoyed. It is as much a benefit in exchange for your services as is your paycheck.

like

If you can get paid to not work, take the max amount of time.

You just need to decide going into this what it is you want from life. Then prioritize. There will never be enough time for everything.

When you get overwhelmed cut stuff out of your life that is the lowest priority.

Never sacrifice your long term happiness for what may seem prudent now.

As a partner told me, it's a benefit that the firm offers... take it.

EY5 you are so nice ☝️👏 as a single dateless person I am all 😒😒😒

Family comes first before anything else. Our culture is about people and if any of your senior or manager complains , yell your partner and people consultant. Don't feel bad if you are reproducing while other people (like me) can't b even find a date.

Younger entitled if 16 weeks, on top you can take personal days , sick days and vacation days but I have heard cases where msyrrniyy leave ends upto 6 months.

like

Yes

like

You bet. Tho that won't leave much vacation days for when you really need a break

It's really overwhelming to find that I'm pregnant on my first year. It looks impossible to balance family and work :(

like

Thank You! :)

like

@TSA1 that's amazing!! Thank you and everyone above!!! You really make me feel better! :)

like

Can I take my vacation days on top of maternity leave?

It's actually easier at staff level. Senior years are the busiest time.

Who cares if they get annoyed. Your and ur baby's health are irreplaceable, work is.

@OP Congratulations!!!! Stop worrying and focus on your baby!
I just found out I'm expecting my second a year after I started! Yay!
Nervous as it can be, but grateful and blessed!

Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.

I'm accepting an offer with a new company... Start in early Aug. Senior Manager role, though in this company that equates to Manager at most consulting farms. They did not had hunt me. I came to them for the job.

I have COVID delayed vacations planned for the last week in August and the first week in October.

Should I just cancel one of them? Or should I at least put both on the table and see what they say? They're going to hire me either way, but I wonder if it's a bad start to ask for both.

Quick question.
I was a contractor for a big company and they just let me know that my last day is December 30th. I got this position thanks to a recruiting company that has been great and gives me benefits.
Should I:
- Continue working with the recruiting company, hoping that they will find another position for me? (as they told me they will, and when they applied me I started working with my current company within 2 weeks)
- Work with the recruiter + apply for jobs on my own?

Is anyone concerned the push for sexual equality in pay without accordant leveling of parental leave is gonna backfire?

Here’s a hypothetical:

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

Freelancers, do you actually benefit from having an S Corp? Assume someone is earning about $100k in 1099s and $150k in W9s. Everyone says “oh get an s corp for taxes” but does it ACTUALLY help lower your taxes? (Also, can you get ALL 1099s if you bill through your s corp and does THAT help?) Everyone who insists on it says things like “yeah I’m not sure how, but it helps” or “this is my first year doing it.”

Do tech companies in Canada give out RSUs or equivalent?

I was Listening to a podcast today about people in US tech getting rich from 50k to 100k of annual RSUs in the US that vest over 3 to 5 years then making millions when the company exits.

Wondering if there are similar opportunities in Canada or is it less common to receive a decent amount of equity here?
