12 or beyond. It’s not sneaking, it’s keeping private medical information to yourself. It’s not like they can tell and it’s not like you have that many appointments. Just chill.

I waited until I knew the pregnancy was viable, which was at 16 weeks when my NIPT results came back.

like

After 12 weeks you are less likely to miscarry, but the testing at 16 or 20 weeks is when you have a better idea that there are no issues. Some folks think you just are testing for Down Syndrome, but there are a host of things that can be revealed and sometimes fixed or sometimes leading to very, very difficult decisions.

I always advise caution and telling late. I know you’re excited, and there’s no reason to think anything will go wrong, but there is no risk in waiting. Also, as a manager who was told at 5 weeks, ain’t nobody outside your family excited enough to want to talk to you about it for 8 months. Nobody. I swear that pregnancy felt longer than my own and I went 42 weeks!

Waited as long as I could without showing, until 19ish weeks after anatomy scan.

Same. I’d have waited longer if I could have but I told at about 20 weeks. Had a big team travel event at 4 months and it was hard because none of my client facing clothes fit, I had to go out and buy pants that were just like my regular pants but one size larger. No one noticed and no one noticed that I wasn’t drinking at the client events since I just was super casual about it and kept a glass full of something vague looking. But dear god was I tired!!!

I recommend 12.

like

honestly its more about being excited to tell work friends and not being sure how long i can not arouse suspicions with all these damn happy hours in advertising! but i agree the closer to 12 weeks as possible seems smart

like

Just order a coke or a soda water with lime. No one will blink. If someone asks what you want just say, “gosh I’m super dehydrated, could you get me a coke?"

like

I waited 14 weeks. Which was conveniently the day before our rowdy holiday party

I told my boss at 20 weeks after we had done the last tests and knew things were ok. She told me she already suspected as did a lot of folks at work but I think they were reading into things I did normally. Like not drinking at a vendor lunch

I understand this might sound a little snobby but I'm not trying for it to come off that way. I've been around impressive people throughout my adult life. My girlfriend's sister works at a Fortune 500 company and views herself as very accomplished. She's not a good person. I also don't find her impressive so I don't particularly try

I have a wee crush on one of the partners in my firm and I thought he liked me too, but neither of us did anything about it (which is entirely appropriate). That was all pre-Rona. Now I’m leaving the firm and pursuing another opportunity and staying in the same city. Since he’ll no longer be my boss, is there a way to find out if my feeling was correct? How should I go about this? (Especially given Rona?)

Anyone deal with this before: I inherited a severely under developed team including a sr analyst who clearly was doing the bare minimum, if that. Over the last 6 months I have had to coach him and correct simple mistakes in his work and recently it got so bad that I told him he would receive a low rating in his evaluation. He lashed out, involved HR saying he doesn’t understand why, and now my review points out stuff that I would have let slide.

Has anyone successfully pursued a relationship with someone they met at work? An MD I am really attracted to has been chasing me, but I am nervous about what the repercussions could be if it doesn't work out. Still, it's tempting

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other. I cry every day and constantly am made to feel stupid for not understanding the highly technical (cont.)

I am sharing this to tell you that no matter what you’re feeling right now, it won’t last. Even the happiness I feel right now, I’ve had that stripped from me multiple times. That is LIFE. We have the good and the bad.

Hang in there if times are bad. If things are good, prepare to lose it too.

I’ve had the opportunity to be third chair on a trial, and will likely be second chair in an upcoming trial. However, given the track record of the firm and the amount of money at stake in each case, I am afraid I won’t get any first chair experience, if any, for at least another 5-7 years. I am considering staying at the firm but trying to get trial experience through side Pro Bono work. Thoughts?
