1st job - $27k as a temp. 10 years later - $500k as a principal product manager at Amazon. Just have an arts degree.
TY. How was the promotion process?
$28K to $700K…over 25 years :-)
27k -212k plus bonuses. 38 yrs. Started as a sw engineer turned systems engineer 18 yrs ago. Various positions including chief engineer a couple times and director a few times. Includes being laid off twice and taking 25k backwards each time. Work at home since 2020 and haven’t been happier…. Money isn’t everything…but it’s nice. I chose a value 180k that I thought was market tolerable that could be achieved no matter what happened and I stick to that for my lifestyle. This is important so that you don’t panic during lean times. I had a recruiter comment on my calmness during a layoff… that I didn’t seem to be living paycheck to paycheck….

Joined my company a bit less than 7 years ago at 55k total compensation, and now I’m at about 124. More support experience, but moved over to consulting. No degree, all self taught. Sounds like I need to move to a big four with some of these numbers.

Ah, discussing first job salaries is a bit like diving into a historical treasure chest, isn't it?
We'd need to dust off those old monetary adjustments! Some of us still fondly recall the golden days of Atari, the reliable Telex, the trusty Fax, and, of course, the ill-fated Betamax.
It’s a wonder we didn’t get paid in drachmas or farthings!
One idea could be to ask how many Big Macs would your first salary have bought versus how many would your current salary buy today, regardless of where!
