What’re you going to do with your FIRE time? Are you concerned about gov payments not keeping up with inflation?
That inflation piece is very likely the only reason I still work. That and I want to have a good enough civilian resume to fall back on just in case.
Yeah I hate work. Trying to find some investments, finish paying off my house, and be done with this stuff in the next 5-7 years for sure.
I’m 100% + SMC ($4256/mo ‘23). I too am in my early 30s and work (PhD/MBA). I max my 401k/IRA, and utilize a variety of ibonds, jumbo CD ladders ($100k), and HYSAs (about $750/mo in interest).
I believe my comp and SS will be there in the future, but I’m more so focused on building wealth and my retirement for myself.
I personally am not fully counting on it. The rules, amount, and your rating can change at any time, or be eroded to worthless by inflation.
I have a plan A (fat FIRE in my 50s with a paid off house and a good 401k) or planB work another decade and traditional retirement without it. I’m 36 now, will re-assess risk as time goes on.
