How much industry experience do you need to pivot to a data analyst role within a specialized company (eg understanding the nuances of the retail market before becoming an analyst at a retail company)

I've decided to leave public for an Accounting Manager position in private. What are the different types of companies to consider and the pros/cons? What are the best ways to get the position?
