I have been reading a few articles talking about how FAANG isn’t as lavish as it used to be. My first question is if that is true? If it is true, my second question is what companies out there have the pay, benefits, and perks like FAANG? My last question is if it is as difficult to get into those companies? I think the bigger long term issue is the lack of growth opportunities in a lot of industry roles.
Traditional consulting firms are a great place for rapid progression in skills, experience and compensation.
I knew someone who went to elementary school teaching from IBanking (with no safety net). Sometimes money isnt worth it if you hate what you do.
Paycuts are dumb financially. May make sense lifestyle wise.
Yeah, I know. Especially early in career. But I just need to get out ASAP and I want to have an idea of what would be just kind of stupid vs what would be extremely stupid and not worth it. I kept applying for higher positions with no luck after about 4 months, so now I’m also looking for a lateral move.
S1, good point, but I’m over consulting for right now. I need my life back. Maybe one day I’ll boomerang, but I’ve wanted out since April and nothing has been able to convince otherwise.
Any pay cut is stupid. Case close
Do what you have to do OP. Sounds like the lifestyle isn’t a good fit, so go find the best paying non-consulting job you can find.
Personally I would be hesitant to take a pay cut. Not sure why the company wouldn’t be able to at least match your current pay. Nonetheless, I would say anything more than a 5-7% pay cut would bother me.
Why are Staff in EY so desperate to quit? What would be some of the things that you want to do?
@ey2 cause they keep staffing them on AML projects
I'll take any pay cut lower than 0
Depends on industry and you personal needs. If the cut still satisfies your financial needs, then congratulations finding an exit opp that makes you happy!
Friend of mine was a manager with pwc and went into tech PMO for one of the two main beer companies. Got a pay raise out of it.
I’m in a similar spot. I would be willing to take a 10% pay cut right now for my version of the perfect position
Adjust for COL and see if it’s actually a pay cut, then make your decision.
Ya if Youre on AML just quit
Do it!!! I’m in the exact same spot except I haven’t found another job yet. If I had an opportunity that I loved I would take a pay cut if I could still afford it. I hate this job too and idc about a pay cut to find something I like. You only have one life, enjoy it.
