At Deloitte on the fed side when I was there prior to 2015 (caveat--things may be different now), directors started off with a higher base than principals.
If memory serves, directors started around $300-350 while principals started around $250-300. That doesn't count rainmakers, though, this was just the average for homegrown directors/principals.
Base comp for directors topped out around $600-700 as far as I know, while I knew of a handful of principals who were pulling in 7 digits.
At the time, new directors generally had a MR target that was 1.5-2x the MR target for a tenured SM, while only having a slightly higher sales target. On the flip side, new principals had sales targets that were 1.5-2x higher than a tenured SM but MR targets only a bit higher.
Both sales and MR targets climbed for principals and directors as they moved up the food chain, but I haven't a clue what their util targets were.
Ah ok. That was 6 years ago so that may be right.
At pwc advisory US while I was there MDs made typically about $300-450k, with partners averaging $800, starting at about $400. But top MDs could make way more and top partners made $2ish. Everyone had billing targets depending on role, tenure, etc.
