Lying is always an option, just usually not a very good one
I left recently and they don't let you take vacation during your notice period. It was told to me over the phone from my People Consultant that since I would be working out my two weeks, I could not take PTO. You'll have to be at the office at some point to turn in all your stuff on your last day so not sure how you can skip out on that.
Why take PTO that will get paid out after the two weeks?
Because it was carried over from a prior year
If you got to a competing firm, they will show you the door that day and will pay out your two weeks and PTO
Can you just lie and say competitor?
Wait you don't get paid out for carry over pto?
I thought carry over expired in May. Only policy they stick to is that you can't get paid out carry over and your last day - computer turn in day can't be a vacation or personal day.
EY's vacation year is 10/1 to 9/30. The policy states that carryover PTO will be paid out if you separate from the firm between 10/1 - 12/31. However, if you separate between 1/1 - 9/30, you will only get Current PTO paid out to you.
Search SCORE number "03268-161US" on the WAY homepage and select the first link titled "Vacation". It lays out the payout policy upon separation from the firm.

Someone in my start class recently put in their two weeks. Week 2 was vacation that they had planned for months. The firm let them take the vacation so they basically gave one week notice.
