I accidentally contributed to my Roth IRA not realizing my income was too high to qualify.

How do I amend ? (It was only $1,000)

Ask your tax accountant and the brokerage customer service department. They may have a solution. Google of course is always the first stop.

Request to withdraw the amount before you file the taxes. Or else you will be penalized and you have to pay a fine.

like

How do you recharacterize? This is opened as roth ira!! Most brokerages (I can't speak for all) will recommend you draw the amount, but you have got to speak with them.

The above advice is pretty misinformed. You want to recharacterize as a traditional IRA contribution. And then convert to Roth IRA. Moving forward you should be contributing any add to al IRA funds as tIRA and immediately converting.

BoA1 IF they don’t have any pretax IRA assets already. If they do it’s going to be a mess

like

withdrawing is one option. the other option, as someone suggested, is to 'recharacterize.' you open a traditional IRA account, ask your brokerage provider to recharacterize and move the money to tIRA, do not invest there but leave it in basic money market or cash, let it sit there for a few days, and then simply transfer ALL of it back to your roth IRA account. you just did a backdoor roth IRA yourself!

make sure you don't leave anything back in tIRA account (avoiding pro rata), leave the tIRA account open with zero balance, and use the same account next year for another backdoor. next time simply send the post tax funds straight to tIRA, and immediately transfer over to roth.

I have a LOT of credit card debt. It has just grown over time and I can’t find my way out. I’m considering debt consolidation, specifically a company called National Debt Relief which seems legit but I’m just so hesitant because I’m scared to make my situation worse. Or a personal loan to pay off all the CC debt and then have a smaller all in one payment. I’m intelligent and I work in finance, it’s so embarrassing. HELP.

I’m 25 and have found a duplex I’m considering purchasing as a rental property. Planning on renting both units and have the cash to make the down payment without an issue. My cash flow analysis has a payback period of 3 years for my down payment and a 13 year payback period for the whole investment. I think financially it makes sense. My question is, is it realistic for a 25 year old young professional to handle dealing with all the extra curricular’s that come with owning a rental property ?

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

I stopped contributing to my 401K for the last three months in order to pay off credit card debt. I am 28 and have about 68K in my 401K. Was this a smart decision? I want to get out of debt as quickly as possible and I have no student loans or car debt.
