I am a recent hire as a “IT specialist” and I’m just doing IT Audits. To be fair I was an intern prior and knew what I would be doing, but nevertheless I’m 3 months in now full time and I realize I don’t want to get stuck in an IT compliance role my whole career. I’m interested in consulting, how hard would it be move sideways in the company to a consulting role, given that this is my only experience? I want a chance at career outside of compliance and I can’t see that happening with this role.

How common are credit checks for roles in accounting or finance positions? Will high utilization on credit card balances and low credit score be a deal breaker? I’ve been irresponsible and made mistakes, but wondering if I can switch jobs now or if I’m best off waiting 1-2 years and cleaning up my credit first.

My contract is ending 12/31/22 and can’t be extended legally according to our CFO.
