Mistakes at entry level are to be expected and also how you learn. But if you are making loads of them, you may have too much on your plate. Discuss this with your manager and help them understand you want to hold yourself to a higher standard of work (less mistakes) and that may mean taking some things off your plate to better manage.
When you are feeling overwhelmed try to remember it’s just advertising. It’s normal to get emotional over work when you care about what you do but if crying spells are common and frequent then it may be affecting your mental health too much - try to breathe and not take it all so seriously.
I used to feel like this too! All the time. Title is old I’m an AE now. But I still feel like that sometimes. It’s okay to make mistakes it’s how you learn. I used to/still get really upset and people tell me that it just means you care which also means you’re probably doing a better job than you think.
If you aren’t loving it here, it’s ok to see what else is out there! You’re still at the beginning so it doesn’t really matter and you can always come back. But also, if you do like it here, keep asking questions and asking for feedback. It really does help if you have a good mentor to lean on as well.
1 if you are being made to feel like you are always making a mistake that's on your supervisors with how they treat you.
2. You probably are making mistakes. Coming right out of college people need to learn the wotking world ways. And while it may be taught to you the only real way to learn is by trial and error and learning from your mistakes. Hopefully that part is happening (learning from the mistakes)
3. Ad world isn't for everyone. It is high stress and lots of work. The learnings people get are a great deal of real world and experience in short times.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
Agency life is known for being very fast paced and stressful in regards to keeping up with the standards clients expect, the money can be very good, and the experience working with many clients is also a perk.
Corporate and in house generally is much less stressful, and offers less stress than agency does usually.
To be honest, I am sure that I manage to do my work at a really good level, really fast & in quality. Of course, as I am in the industry for only 1.5 years, I make mistakes, but I always try to correct them and be honest to the clients.
The feedback from my seniors and colleagues are also really good highlighting I am talented.
Also I am working a lot to satisfy the clients and I feel that they are hating on me, always wanting more and more, and faster sacrificing my free hours after work and my nerves overall. I just feel the burden of this, also I think with my competencies I can work well in other marketing fields without clients and I can feel finally appreciated.
So you are definitely not alone, all I want to say.❤
I graduated in May of 2020. Somehow have made my way up to SPM. Sometimes I wish I had stayed at a lower rank because there no room for error the higher you go.
Anyway, I feel everything you’ve said. I think sometimes we need to take a step back and validate our own feelings. Agency life is toxic and exhausting, and we all feel burnt out and jaded… most of us are afraid to talk about it.
Worth a watch. 😉
