I’m so sorry this is the response you received. Email distribution lists are essential and such a time saver. And pretty much the bare basics of an administrative function. Unfortunately, it sounds like the HR Director and Office Manager are ok with using antiquated methods and systems. If they shot down something as simple as that, I’m not sure how innovative and adaptable they are… You’ll need to decide if that’s an environment you want to be in for the long run. Separately, I would simply ask them what they would like to see from you in the future to ensure you’re meeting/exceeding their expectations. And if you do have any other ideas, try reframing them to show how they would benefit those two specifically. But overall I’m with you… I’d be pretty irritated with that response.
My advice is to create your own email list. If you use outlook you can share the contact, or in this case the list, with whomever needs to use it and once they see how easy it is, they’ll change their tune. I’ve done the same thing and it worked! I’ve been in your shoes and it’s very frustrating! Don’t give up!
Either lazy or a dim bulb. Neither is good. Send them a link to the effectiveness of distribution lists. If you can’t find one, CharGpt whip one up.
This actually was a great idea, at my former company we had distribution lists (d-lists)for every group or team across functions and offices you can imagine. It was helpful, effective and saved time, typing in 28 names each time is not efficient, the fact your direct support did not embrace your idea shows they may not value or are open to new ideas.
And sorry this was written so poorly! I thought this was a cool and helpful idea, but apparently it's not. How else can I go above and beyond in an HR Admin role? I'm clueless and defeated .

First let them know your idea is worthy by sending them the article on importance of email distribution list in the office
I’m sorry that this was the reception. This is not an unnecessary or uncommon type of email list within an organization. And it is a good idea. That said, if the Office Manager wants to waste their time typing in the names, let them. You did your level best to save them time and the company a little of from their lost time.
