I am studying for CPA currently and want to also study for CMA. I have taken 3 sections of the CPA already. Have FAR left. I want to take CMA because I feel I lack speaking the language of industry accountants. I am in PA. I also am doing client books on the side and I feel this will help me. Am I correct in my thinking? (Also no I’m not analyst lol)

No reason to do CMA if you are a licensed CPA honestly

You’ll learn whatever you need on the job

I have both. I can tell you right now that I stand out from other candidates. The CMA is not much help right now, but later down the road it will especially if you’re looking for a management level analysis required role or looking to pivot into something else. I’m basically learning/growing at the pace of every other CPA, but have another title to my name 🤪

When recruiters/interviewers ask what the CMA is, I tell them: CPA is the “what” are the numbers, CMA is the “why” behind the numbers. And if youre looking to pivot into something more analysis-like or decision-making role, CMA will definitely give you a foot forward. If you have the time early in your career to get it done, why not? Same could be said for other certifications

No need for CMA. I have both but no real change

Hi all- My SO is currently at a Big4 & was initially preparing for S&O roles at GCP but given the high number of ex MBB consultants hired, they believe its just more competition to get the offer & to eventually get promoted over time.

Instead, they have decided to pursue program manager or cloud consultant roles, which they feel might have a lower barrier to entry from an assessment standpoint. Not sure if the bowl agrees but would like to get your thoughts, thanks!

International tax manager with 7 years experience all at KPMG. Thinking about switching to industry to see it from a new perspective and do similar work from a different angle. How do you successfully transfer B4 skills/experience to industry (how do you find the right fit?), and how do you continue to learn and build your skills so that you’re still marketable and could boomerang back if it doesn’t work out in a few years? NFW- I just had a good laugh. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”

EY Deloitte PwC people - would you leave your current employer for a 15%-25% total comp difference? This translates to a 25-45k difference per annum, largely driven by bonus at the new firm (20-40%), much smaller than my current employer. Doesn’t feel like a great exit opportunity - currently at big 4 this would be moving to a niche consulting company
