Tata Consultancy I am a manager in Capgemini... have an offer frm TCS. the designation being offered is Assistant Consultant.. 9.8 years experience( 5 yrs with Cap) Even though I am getting a package of 25Lakhs.. it seems like a demotion in designation.. Cg has offered to match upto 23.5 lakhs.. Is it worth moving to TCS on this grade? My primary reason for moving out of Cg is i m bored of beauocracy and WLB at current project. Talk to HR. Rumors about a colleague are unhinged.
My issue is I don’t know what is being said. How do I poke around and find out what is actually being said without it setting off alarm bells?
Talk to the coworker and ask “do we have any problem that I am not aware of?”. Try to be polite and respectful, but you definitely need to approach this demon.
Yes I believe reaching out to the people who you feel you need to Is the right a good place to start. You telling your truth will shatter all the false accusations allegations lies whatever. People like that need to get they ass checked.. Real gone recognize real they can't put their issues on you and lie to mutual acquaintance to make themselves look like something to people who don't Give a damn.

Go to HR and tell them what’s up. They should take the next steps to talk to the perp and others involved to figure out what’s going on. Don’t put yourself in a vulnerable situation, let HR handle the initial footwork.

Yea I feel you. When I first got into corporate, one of my bosses was openly chummy with our HR rep, which made me feel like even if I did go to him regarding her being a complete imbecile, it would go nowhere but back to her.
Early in my career I had a direct report this happened with. Worst year of my life. And I felt like I couldn’t do/say anything because I was his boss. I just slowly started noticing other people I previously had good relationships with start being extremely cold to me, then eventually one mentioned details about what he said about me that were completely twisting reality & I realized he had done the same thing to others with me (spread misinformation to erode my trust in others).
I don’t know the right advice to tell you, what I will say is that in my situation it was toxic and cancerous - it spread. I wish I had brought in HR and I now have 0 tolerance for that behavior (although I’ve not encountered someone quite like that since, thank god).
No poking around. You have the information from the one person, right? You go to HR with it. If it were me, knowing what I know now, I’d go directly to the rumor starter and say “I’ve been informed that you’ve mentioned x. Can you explain this to me? Do we have a problem?”
Alarm bells should go off and everything should be direct and out in the open. Tap dancing around in the shadows is this other person’s game.. don’t play it.
