I don’t mean to sound like an ass, but as someone who switched from agency side, do you ever get bored on the brand side?
After 9 or 10 years you being ground down as in account management, now I find myself bored...and somehow I’m still stressed! Fear I should be doing more, maybe? Any advice?

Speaking from the creative perspective, brand side is definitely more boring (and repetitive) than agency side, but more secure, less stressful, and pays better. I miss the sexy high profile work, but I really can’t complain.

like

Yeah, I think I just need to get used to it, to be honest.

I love the idea of not being busy, getting paid well, and having a nice WLB but it just feels like I’m not used to this new life yet.

It sounds like maybe you need to get inspired by exploring conferences , books and new ideas that you can slowly work into your daily routine. obviously on the brand side you can’t make massive changes overnight. But the essence of the new thinking will seep into the work.

like

I switched in the other direction and have found my agency work environment to be very boring. I think its totally just about company culture and whether your skills and interests are aligned with the work and expectations. That said, boring isnt bad, especially if it means you are riding out a stable paycheck right now.

Seriously, which company do you work at? I'm in legal marketing pulling 60 hour weeks plus 14 hours of driving commute on top of that 4 put of 5 days a week. So exhausted. I would die for a boring job either decent pay and WLB!! Do you have any leads on openings where you are?!?!

Wanna stay challenged?
Challenge yourself. Ur us not your employer's responsibility to develop you as a professional. Take the initiative to learn something new. Take in clients in your free time. Pick up new skills. Pitch new ideas and opportunities at work.
Sure, brand side can get repetitive, but it's not your only creative outlet, and you are not limited to creativity within your job description.

Sometimes you have to come up with new projects on your own. I’ve done this in every brand roles I’ve been in - maybe it’s refreshing brand guidelines, coming up with a new creative brief format, messaging frameworks, finessing the brand positioning statement, do a competitive review, developing a hypothesis and rationale to conduct market research, finding ways to make sure there’s stronger consistency by taking a look at messaging created by teams outside of marketing like customer service or sales, read industry pubs and gain insights into what might be trending and how they can be applied to your brand. There should be no reason to be bored on the client side, there’s plenty to do but you have to take initiative, be forward-thinking, and bring new ways of thinking to your brand.

like

I've been brand side for over 17 years, and I have never been bored. But I've also never been one to stay in my lane. Brand side really does require someone who can seek out opportunity on behalf of the brand.
Because we are not compensated for individual projects or business won, it does mean we do it for the challenge and without an immediate personal benefit.

My job is usually boring but sometimes interesting, but I’d a fraction of the stress level of my agency job before. I decided I don’t need my job to be my source of entertainment and creative fulfillment, and I get that outside of my job.

However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.
