I finally understand that guy in The Office who wouldn’t shut up about going to the Finger Lakes- If I don’t give constant reminders that I’m taking paternity leave, everyone forgets. Lol

One of my colleagues updates his email footer to include a heads up of when he is going on vacation a few weeks before. “I will be out of the office the week of 6/10. Please let me know if you need anything prior to that date.” It’s very helpful as someone that works with him and I’m sure it’s helpful for him

That’s smart!

No one forgets. They just don’t care.

You must be a blast to work with

The fact is that it’s very difficult for a partner/director/manager to keep track of the personal time for every single team member. It’s not that they don’t care, it’s just that there’s a lot going on and your paternity leave isn’t top priority to them. Just gently remind people if they forget. It’s likely not intended to be disrespectful

Community, I’ve been meeting with a lot of people regarding next steps in my career. One of the best pieces of advice I received is to avoid micro-managing executive staff (agency leadership), as it puts downward and unwelcome pressure on people’s managers and ultimately oneself. Based on your experience in the last 2 years are there:
- Agencies you would steer clear from because their leadership micromanages
- Agencies you would recommend because their leadership gives you room to grow

Thx 🙏🏼
