I got my paralegal cert. last year, and I am working towards my advanced paralegal certificate. I have applied to hundreds of jobs during the last 6 months, and I have gotten between 10 and 15 interviews, but not a single job offer. While my legal experience in the U.S. falls short, I am a bilingual foreign-licensed attorney, so I know how the law works, and I will need just a short training for certain procedures. Is the job market too crazy? Or are law firms asking for too much exp nowadays?

UPDATE: I GOT A JOB OFFER YESTERDAY!!! THANK Y'ALL FOR YOUR KIND WORDS!

It took me two years to find someone that would hire me after getting my paralegal certificate. I worked in a different field and finally got an opportunity. However, with little experience I had to start at the bottom and take a significant pay cut to prove myself. I am just now after 3 years making a little more than I was at my former job. I’m so thankful I suffered through it and now I’m studying for my certification as well. The opportunities will eventually come but may not be what you envisioned. But once you get your foot in the door, you it will be up from there.

It will take you much less time with your background! Once you get in and write some good discovery or motion they will see how valuable you are very quickly! I’m still working towards senior paralegal at my firm, and it will probably be a couple more years for me. You got this!

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

I’m interviewing with another firm next week. Has anyone made a switch like that before? How did you do it? I work in a small criminal firm now. Interview is with a same size/practice area firm.
