I’m confused VP is higher than a director level. What part of banking
Director in banking is generally a functional title. You can be a VP, Director of Risk at one bank and SVP Director of Risk at another. In some banks, and most certainly in non-bank financial services a Director is above a VP. Examples, at JPMC an Exec Director is above a VP. In Citi a Director is above an SVP. In insurance a Director is lower than an AVP and AVP is lower than a VP
Absolutely not, just have a good pitch that highlights your experiences.
No. I’ve reported to a director that has 25 YOE; and I out perform him on all levels. It’s really about place and time. Best of luck!
Are there even director level openings?
Depends what area you’re looking in. I’ve seen some casually perusing job boards, but I’m probably going to try to work with a headhunter
No. Go for it. You only live once.
Yes, it's too early. Stay or look for another job in the VP level if you can. Chances are is that you'll be in a position below VP, until you are right to be there. Try to stay in the VP slot for about 5 yrs, then apply for another VP role with more of what you want.
