I have 4 YOE and joining BCG in September as an associate. Don’t plan to stay in consulting too long - I’d like to exit to a strategy and ops role later on. When is it best to exit? 1 year? 2 years? Appreciate your insights!

U could probably exit at 1-1.5 yrs into a decent s&o role

Thanks!

Wow you haven’t even started yet and you’re already planning your exit 🤣 It’s gonna be a rough time for you if all you’re thinking about is what you want to do next

like

I really don’t think 90% of people start thinking about leaving before they even start lol, it’s one thing to know you’re not going to be in consulting long term, it’s another thing to be actively planning your exit. To each their own I guess.

Curious what others think but, personally I think 4-5 years is best time to bounce

So I’m in industry from big 4, and a colleague with same yoe comes from MBB. High paying tech firm. I think I work harder and produce quality content at speed, but they can hold executive conversations that tend to impress senior stakeholders.

Big 4 produces work horses and MBB produces leaders. Also they could be a work horse too since I don’t have full visibility.

Anyone have similar experiences or do I just suck at executive stakeholder management?
