An “interview” with one of our recruiters? What position did you apply for? For the generalist path (ie the majority of our consulting positions) recruiters don’t do any interviews. Perhaps you misunderstood and it’s just a conversation or something? Sorry, I’m about as confused as you are!

When applying not too long ago, I had a simple conversation with the recruiter about the role, salary expectations, a little bit about what I was looking for, possible timelines, etc. It was very low pressure and not at all an interview. Once it was clear that both sides were still interested, that led into scheduling actual interviews.
M2 is right, at least regarding consultant recruitment (you didn’t specify - we do also recruit for digital and administrative roles and those processes may be different).
Consultants do the consulting interviews, most typically with first rounds on campuses, though that’s been broadening in recent years to include more experienced hires in-office (is that you?)
If this is for consulting, and it’s only one person, and they’re a recruiter, it’s almost certainly more informational than evaluative. So relax, bring your best self but also your questions.

I lateraled in as an EM and had a quick convo with a recruiter who reached out prior to my “real” interviews. Focused on what I was looking for and was likely to assess fit. Was very conversational. Good luck!

Be yourself, be honest, and think about some examples of when you demonstrated the 4 things indicated on the website: leadership, problem solving, influence, & entrepreneurship. Also think about what your interests are and what location. Good luck! Show your best self and treat every interview like the final round!

They did this with my friend for EM position and she didn’t get selected for 1st round and she never had a legit reason as of why.

Thanks that makes sense. However, I know some people entering as EM from big 4 (non strategy) before, but it’s very rare as you mentioned.
It’s just weird that they would even reach out and have a phone screen (not even interview questions) instead of just denying the applications
